What if I really don’t know what I want for window treatments?
We meet you where you are with your project. This means many things for many different people. If you have no idea what you want, we start with a general email or phone conversation; we’ll even text, whatever works for you.
We focus on three elements of your project:
1) How it looks
2) How it lights
3) How energy efficient it is
Window coverings answer both a form and function need. Once we understand how your window coverings need to perform and how you want them to look, we can guide you in the right direction for your home.
We are able to email you portfolios of products we’ve selected just for you and even videos of the products in action. We can work together or simply take your direction on fulfilling what you want. If you want us to show up, take a look, and then make recommendations, this works for us as well. In your space at your pace is how we do it.
What happens at the in-home consultation?
For custom shades, shutters, blinds, and verticals, you meet with a design professional who can show you working samples and fabrics of products in your home. It’s an eye-opening experience to see exactly how a product will work in your home in your windows. Will it fit inside of the frame, or must it be mounted on the trim or on the wall above the trim? We show you in your home with your windows.
Our advanced computer-aided design software even allows us to take a photo of your room and show you what a specific window covering will look like in your window. We can draw on our long experience with window treatments and show something that we believe can work in your home. If you really have no idea what you want and you only know that your current shades must go, we are still confident that we have something you would like.
Once you’ve made your selections, we will measure your windows and quote a price. Custom drapery, curtain, bedding, cornice, and other soft-treatment design consultations are handled on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the scope and size of the project, it may require multiple meetings, design follow-up, and a retainer that applies to final purchase (when applicable).
How soon will my window treatments come after I order them?
After you place the order, honeycomb blinds, faux wood blinds, and verticals can arrive in just 1 to 2 weeks. Many window treatments, like Silhouettes, will be installed in your home in 2 to 3 weeks. Drapery and select shutters require more care and attention, so the time from order to installation is about 3 to 5 weeks for USA-made shutters, 6 to 8 weeks for drapery.
For example, we’ve recently installed verticals in as soon as a few days, but handcrafted teak shutters took the final trimester of our new mommy client to arrive. Whatever the time frame and options on time frames, we let you know up front and touch base with you along the way.
How can I pay?
We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards.
Do your window treatment products have a guarantee?
Yes. We work exclusively with trusted brands. We remain your point of contact with any post-installation issues. If you have any concerns, large or small, please call us and we will advocate with the brand on your behalf. We are not that company that says call the manufacturer, the warranty is theirs. That is far from our idea of how customers deserve to be treated. We keep the service in customer service. All of our products carry a limited lifetime warranty.
What if there is a problem with my window coverings?
Call or email us, and we will make it right. If a trip is needed to your home to correct a product failure issue and it is within 1 year of installation, we will have an installer come back out and fix the problem for no charge. After that time, a small service charge will be applied. But don’t worry, we will solve and fix the problem.
Do you carry environmentally friendly products?
Yes, we do. By lowering your heating and cooling costs, window treatments can reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that your home is responsible for, since about 25 percent of your heat is lost through your windows. Cutting that down will be a big savings. Many of our products are GreenGuard certified for having low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to help your indoor air quality.
Which of your products will help my energy bill the most?
The ability of window coverings to keep the heat out in summer and inside in winter is measured by the R-value. An ordinary single pane of glass has an R-value of about 0.9. Our product that is rated the highest for energy efficiency is the Hunter Douglas Duette® Architella® Honeycomb Shades, which has an R-value of 7.73, which is equivalent to 2 inches of insulation.
I have a window that is an unusual shape. What can I do?
You may be surprised that window treatments can be made for arched, triangular, and even circular windows. No matter what the shape, we are confident that there is a window covering that can be custom-made for it.
I have a new home. Can you help me?
Yes! Doing an entire home is a big job, but we are more than happy to walk you through the process and answer any questions you have. We will work to help you balance between the immediate need for privacy and the long-term need to love your selection. Ask about our free temporary shades. Let’s get you out of that fishbowl.
Are any of your products are motorized and remote controlled?
Many of our window treatments can be motorized with PowerTilt™ motorized systems with the Platinum® remote control. The Hunter Douglas Platinum® app also works with the PowerRise® and PowerGlide® system and allows you to raise and lower your window coverings at preset times.
If your home currently has a home automation system, your Hunter Douglas window coverings can be integrated into it.
Why are window treatments so expensive?
The window coverings we sell are high-quality and almost exclusively designed, handcrafted, and fabricated here in North America. Because they are made with the most painstaking care, along with the research, development, and engineering required to function properly in your home, they can last you many years.
We feel that to beautify your home and cut your energy bills, the premium for our products is worth it. We also only use certified Hunter Douglas professional installers, as well as top-notch drapery installers. They are experienced and the best at what they do.
You will not get a better fit or better care of your home with the installation team that Beyond Shades uses. Share your budget with us, and we will share our options with you. You might be surprised at the look you can get and what price and design options are available.
